Criteria to Participate in Early Rehab/Mobility

(Olkowski, et al., 2013)

It is important to know the general criteria to participate in therapy and what to look for in the chart. But understand that each situation is case specific. You may work with patients outside the standard range/cutoff. Knowledge of the effects of vitals and labs values on the patient and their ability to participate is important and will help guide clinical thinking.

Included is a general list of metrics to look for when evaluating whether or not your patient is appropriate for therapy. Be sure to still consult with the bedside nurse and team as indicated.

  • Secured aneurysm (clipped/coiled)

  • MAP ≥ 80 or ≤ 110

  • HR ≥ 40 or ≤ 130bpm

  • RR ≤ 40 breaths/min

  • SpO2 ≥ 88%

  • ICP < 15mmHg

  • No evidence of seizure activity

  • Stable neurologic exam

  • Ability to open eyes in response to voice

  • Ability to move one extremity on command
